National Poetry Day Round Up
We’ve had a brilliant couple of days in Blackpool with our #makelikeapoet Blackpool Illuminations switch-on event on Wednesday night followed by an action packed National Poetry Day with our partners Grundy Art Gallery, The Museum Project, Blackpool Arts and Libraries and LeftCoast.
Lunchtime saw poets performing their work at Brilliance on Burley Street with LeftCoast as part of LightPool’s Brilliance programme. Performance poet Mark Grist kicked off the proceedings with performances by students from Blackpool Sixth Form College, Lisa Bower, Stephen Stroud and Blackpool Museum Projects very own John Simpson-Wedge. This was followed by workshops and performances at The College by Mark Grist.
Participants bought along their own treasure to make casting of.
This was followed by a tour of the Grundy Art Gallery‘s wonderful Sensory Systems exhibition and time spent with the Illuminations collection on display which would inform the Mark Grist poetry workshop at Central Library.
Participants worked with Mark on a series of writing exercises, often with hilarious results to create their own poems inspired by the Illuminations Collections.
We would like to warmly thank all of the participants who attended events and made Blackpool’s National Poetry Day such a vibrant and exciting event.
Extra special thanks go to Cllr Vikki Singleton, Blackpool Illuminations, The Museum Project, Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool & The Fylde College and LeftCoast.
